Useless: New Writing in Art and Design

07/06/2012

Should art be useful? Is there any use in useless design? These are questions that may or may not be answered in Useless, a collection of writing on the idea of uselessness in art and design by the inaugural class of the MA in Crictical Writing in Art and Design at the Royal College of Art. Developed from a series of workshops with deputy editor of Icon Magazine, Will Wiles, Useless was produced and edited by the students and designed by RCA graduate Pedro Cid Proença with a cover illustration by Fabienne Hess. The publication will launch June 13, 2012 at an event at Banner Repeater, Platform 1, Hackney Downs railway station, London E8 1LA, where Will Wiles will be on hand to ponder the idea of uselessness and performance artists will, throughout the evening, make both object and text their own.
