Don Giovanni Sets by Frank Gehry
27/06/2012The L.A. Philharmonic presented an incredible production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni last month, with all sets designed by architect Frank Gehry. Working with the setting of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, of which he also designed, Gehry transformed this otherwise unaccommodating space for theater or opera into a visual wonderland. The sets took a sculptural path, with white clusters of forms playing against the layered black backdrops and raised orchestra platform, all complimenting the costume designs by Rodarte perfectly.
The L.A. Philharmonic plan to continue this collaboration with architects for Mozart productions, with Jean Nouvel in line for The Marriage of Figaro next year, and Zaha Hadid paired with Cosi Fan Tutte in 2014.
