DYLAN LYNCH: First Impressions
08/07/2012The Still House Group presents First Impressions, seven new sculptures by Dylan Lynch.
Born in Los Angeles in 1987, Lynch moved to New York in 2006, where he has shown in numerous group shows across the United States. He opens his first solo exhibition on July 12th at Still House in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In this exhibition, Lynch's personal gesture reveals itself as a balancing act of ready-made objects. Tilted and stacked on top of one another, Lynch arranges ordinary objects into a polished display of form and color.
The title of the show refers to both the first comprehensive look at Lynch's work, as well as his own artistic process. Mostly store bought, his materials are chosen intuitively, based on immediate attraction. Ignoring their function and the context of their everyday use, he reduces them to abstract forms--to first impressions. A row of tipping cinderblocks; two yellow crowbars dangling in embrace; a single black metal folding chair frozen in tilt. These are the subjects of Dylan Lynch's continued conversation with the physical language of prefabricated objects.
