Reading Ed Ruscha

12/07/2012

The work of Ed Ruscha is not easily allocated to any one established category. Assigned to the pop movement in his early career, and later to conceptual art, the artist has never confined himself to one medium. There are, however, some constants displayed in the his work; namely, writing. Whether in print form or painted onto canvas, words are a thread that run through from his earliest beginnings to the present.

The Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria plays host to an exhibition conceived by the artist himself, showcasing an entire range of media including drawing, photogravure, books, film, and acrylic and oil painting that will focus on the significance of the book and/or the act of reading in Ruscha's work. The exhibition will show familiar works by the artist as well as a number of new, large-format pictures, produced exclusively for the exhibition, that are being presented to the public for the first time.

Reading Ed Ruscha runs until October 14, 2012.
