Damien Hirst: Two Weeks One Summer21/11/2012
PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine presents the solo exhibition 'Two Weeks One Summer' of renowned British artist Damien Hirst. A series of 11 paintings that he has been working on since the summer of 2010. The new body of work is a collection of large and small scale artworks - each one painted from life in his Devon studio in the UK.
The pieces reference elements from still-life and traditional painting techniques, with a strong allusion to the concept of death, which Hirst is well-known for exploring in his work. 'Two Weeks One Summer' depicts an array of both the natural and inanimate, with birds, butterflies and flower blossoms performing as the signature main subjects of the each work, these bright colorful features contrasted by more sinister symbols, such as a shark’s gaping jawbone.
