London Collections: Christopher Shannon Soundtrack

20/06/2012

With the London Collections: Men shows all wrapped up, we bring you the sounds of the shows, starting with Christopher Shannon.

Post New: Who was the DJ or who chose the music?

Christopher Shannon: I always choose the music. I have no idea how designers let other people do it. It's really intrinsic to the whole design process and the mood in the studio. The last two seasons Joseph Bond has mixed it, and before that, Matthew Stone did most of the others. I put a rough idea together with the running order, then we tweak. Sometimes we've gone back to the first edit after doing loads of different ones.

PN: Which specific tracks were played?

CS: For the Spring/Summer 2013 mix, it was: 'My Country' by tUnE yArDs, 'Jingo' by Jellybean, 'Hacker' by Death Grips and 'Young' by Tulisa. This season was defo one of my faves and I loved hearing it in The Old Sorting Office [his massive show venue]. It's such a perfect venue for the tracks to be played really loud.

PN: Which opened the show?

CS: We were playing the tUnE yArDs track so much in the studio. It has a production quality that I love in every way; not too slick but really personal and well done.

PN: Which closed it/which was used for finale?

CS: Cheryl's 'Call My Name'. I love for people to leave the show upbeat. I loathe dreary moody show music or like annoying soundtracks.

PN: Anything fun playing backstage?

CS: I asked them to just play Bob Marley. I have been a fan since I was a kid and it never fails to put me in a better mood.
