Bob Mizer: Private Works

08/06/2012

Held at a work camp in Saugus, California, for the unlawful distribution of obscene material through the US mail, Mizer did not intend to compromise on vision or subject matter following his release, going on to establish his influen

Watch Your Step at FLAG

07/06/2012

The FLAG Art Foundation presents Watch Your Step, a group exhibition of floor works on view June 7 through August 24, 2012. Watch Your Step surveys a series of floor sculptures by 21 artists in a diverse range of media including found objects, handmade materials, and traditional mediums such as bronze, steel and marble. The exhibition recalibrates the viewer's perspective, moving it from eye to ground-level and, in some instances, forcing the viewer to literally watch one's step upon encountering the works.

Hanna Liden 'Ghost Stories'

06/06/2012

In a follow-on to her exhibition that started last month at Maccarone in New York, Hanna Liden’s Ghost Stories is about to open at Workshop in Venice. Liden’s upcoming exhibition evokes the same eery sense that permeates much of her work. This time she’s exploring a lack of presence, the feeling of something fading out, of things lost and then re-imagined. These new works are a mixture of photographs and sculpture, that play with impermanence versus permanence, changing the substance of commonplace items and the weight they carry.

Juergen Teller: The Keys To The House

06/06/2012

Juergen Teller has always managed to combine aspects of his commercial and private work, which is one of the reasons the photographer has managed to maintain a progressive edge. The Keys to the House is Teller's soon to be released book which contains recent photographs of life in and around his house in Suffolk. Landscapes and portraits of family and friends make up the bulk of the publication but we also see the occasional high profile fashion figure make an appearance - be it Lily Cole floating like Ophelia, or Vivienne Westwood leaning on a red Mercedes Benz.

Pippa Brooks discusses Mr Freedom with Paul Gorman

Paul Gorman first met Tommy Roberts 12 years ago when he was researching his book "The Look", his definitive investigation into the relationship between fashion and music. Roberts was an essential link, having been a pioneer from the early days of his boutique Kleptomania and the Mr Freedom shop of the title. This was just one of Roberts' retail adventures, which he first opened in the late 60s, but it broke such new ground, and the name "Mr Freedom" really epitomised the mood of the times. Roberts' attitude towards retail was all-encompassing; he said: "Fashion, business, life, love.
