Hanna Putz Interview

28/06/2012

Hanna Putz, a young photographer based in London by way of Austria, is part of the VUU collective and was recently one of ten photographers chosen to take part in the Hyères 2012 International Festival for Fashion and Photography.

Her work has already been showcased in Dazed & Confused, HUSK and Tissue (the list goes on) since she first picked up a camera professionally a few short years ago.

Her shots capture both the personal elements of individuality, as well as our shared and innately human tendency to offer up a certain vision of ourselves to the lens.

Raf Simons Spring 2013

The incomparable Raf Simons was out in full force and feeling reflective for his Spring 2013 showing. This latest range featured all the Raf staples we have come to know and love over the 17 years he has been designing menswear. Thigh bearing shorts, impeccable tailored outerwear and oversized tees adorned with painted faces by L.A. artist Brian Calvin were all present. The pressure is not off for Raf in Paris yet however, he shows his first haute couture collection for Dior in just a few days time.

Mugler Spring 2013 Menswear

28/06/2012

Mugler's Spring 2013 menswear collection took outside-the-box tailoring to new heights and matched it with cool pastel colours and darkened elegance to produce one of the highlight presentations of the season. An aquatic theme was apparently adhered to, with Creative Director Nicola Formichetti making the decision to go offline this season, saying, “under the sea is the only place we can’t have Wi-Fi”. Quite.

Alexander Wang Spring 2013 Menswear

28/06/2012

Alexander Wang's seemingly effortless take on casual menswear takes a dark turn in his Spring 2013 collection. Relaxed but proportionate fits take T-shirts, sweats and knits to new levels, and the inclusion of two frankly deadly black baseball shirts are a real highlight. A black and white palette reigns supreme for Wang this season, with the only diversion being found in bright red accented sleeves and trimming on select pieces. Trousers are slim but roomy, shorts; kneelength.

A Day In The Life of Alex Olson

By Peter Sutherland

I first noticed Alex in NYC around 2004, I would see him hanging out with artists and skaters at Max Fish. I don't ever remember seeing him with a skateboard, I just assumed he was one of those kids that skated a little between hanging out. The next time I saw Alex was in his video part in the Fully Flared skate video. It begins with a slam section set to the song pop corn, and then goes into one of my favorite parts of all time.

M.Goldstein at Dover Street Market

M.Goldstein at Dover Street Market

27/06/2012

M.Goldstein trade in art, antiques and attire on East London's Hackney Road. They just started a three week occupation of the windows of Dover Street Market in London, with an installation entitled 'Scale & Distortion'. Centering around Atomic Age giant 'Cygan' the robot, the objects chosen challenge notions of scale - from miniature to oversized. All the mirrors in the window, from parabolic reflectors to Victorian fairground, distort the viewer and the objects, so the overall effect on entering the window space is wonderfully warped.

Don Giovanni Sets by Frank Gehry

27/06/2012

The L.A. Philharmonic presented an incredible production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni last month, with all sets designed by architect Frank Gehry. Working with the setting of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, of which he also designed, Gehry transformed this otherwise unaccommodating space for theater or opera into a visual wonderland. The sets took a sculptural path, with white clusters of forms playing against the layered black backdrops and raised orchestra platform, all complimenting the costume designs by Rodarte perfectly.

David Armstrong: Night & Day

27/06/2012

David Armstrong's new book, Night & Day, brings together a selection of the photographer's Kodachrome slides from his archive of the late 70's and early 80's New York scene. Spontaneous yet deliberate, the images are dark and sometimes dirty, and hold a sense of intimate and carefree beauty.
