Marina Abramović and The Institute
Marina Abramović and The Institute
31/01/2013One of the most important and influential artists of her generation, Marina Abramović's performance art over the last four decades has seen her act out such extremities as repeatedly stabbing her own hand, had a stranger point a loaded gun at her head, sat in silence for 700 hours, set herself on fire and act out her own funeral. Her latest project is arguably her largest and something she sees as the culmination of a life's work: the opening of the Marina Abramović Foundation for the Preservation of Performance Art.

Déborah Neuberg Interview: DE BONNE FACTURE
With so many new brands and start-up labels finding their way out of the woodwork and into the fashion-scape these days, it's seemingly becoming harder to find one with a unique point of difference. For Déborah Neuberg's recently launched venture DE BONNE FACTURE, this uniqueness is found in exploring a particular French identity. Working with several traditional ateliers, Déborah and her team put a significant amount of emphasis on old world craftsmanship and a high level of individual love afforded to each piece by the craftsmen who produce them.

25/01/2013New Zealand filmmaker Niamh Peren (now based in Australia) offers her dystopian interpretation of Space Creeps' track "You Are Not Alone Tonight". Expanding on the loose Romeo and Juliet theme explored in the song (which borrows samples from Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 film), Peren presents an unsettling and unconventional music video for the Auckland-based band. This is the second time the two parties have worked together, with Space Creeps composing the soundtrack to Peren's 2010 documentary, The Great Bunny Hunt.

Chris Shen Interview
Interactive artist Chris Shen took over London's 18 Hewett Street gallery last week with a new installation, titled, INFRA. Highlighting the unseen technology in our digital landscape as well as offering an examination of changing television viewing practices, INFRA is made up of 625 discarded remote controls that Shen has programmed so that the infrared light emitted by each can be controlled. The remote-grid is linked to a live TV stream which can be controlled and watched through the sculpture. The catch? The image can only be seen through infrared goggles.
