The Oyler House Documentary

10/12/2012

Directed by filmmaker Mike Dorsey, The Oyler House is a soon-to-be-released documentary that focuses on a house designed by the late modernist architect Richard Neutra. Built in 1959, The Oyler House is set amidst the stunning Long Pine desert of California and was a comparitively humble commission in relation to many of the architect's other projects. Featuring interviews with the original owner of the house, as well as with Neutra's sons and other notable figures, the film looks to provide insight into the work of the remarkable visionary behind its design.

The Swiss master of modern architecture Le Corbusier began his Unité d'habitation project with the opening of the first complex in Marselles on 1952. The 1955 Nantes version was widely viewed as a refinement of the original version, and construction of this 300 room habitation cost one quarter of the price to build as did its older sibling in Marseille.

One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s more unusual architectural accomplishments, the David Wright House (designed for his son), is at risk of demolition by developers. Once described as “one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most innovative, unusual and personal works of architecture”, the house is an insight into the architect's development. Its circular spiral plan, concrete-block detailing and interior design all make this one of Wright's most remarkable works.

Freaks Freearchitects Interview

FREAKS

In 2007, three young French architects began to work alongside each other on a number of interesting projects, a talented collective who were to eventually become FREAKS Freearchitects. Guillaume Aubry, Cyril Gauthier and Yves Pasquet possess just the right amount of drive, good humor and an impeccable eye for design that has seen them rise to the forefront of their field, whilst simultaneously exploring new and exciting territories; namely, installation.
