Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer
Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer
10/06/2013In February last year, Pussy Riot's 'Punk Prayer' - a guerrilla punk performance directed at the Kremlin in a Moscow Cathedral - and the subsequent actions taken by the Russian authorities, shot the feminist collective into the international limelight. The 40-second act of protest landed several of its members in prison, convicted of committing an act of hooliganism under a context of religious hatred.

Meeting Chrysta Bell
Meeting Chrysta Bell
10/06/2013First David Lynch fell in love with her and then so did I.
Meeting Chrysta Bell was like a dream come true; no wonder Lynch himself said, "She sings like a dream and looks like one too". I have seen many beautiful women before but never have I been able to compare her beauty, for she is striking and unique. We were given twenty minutes for the interview which stretched into an hour and talked about lovers, family and arts, not forgetting her ten year collaboration with David Lynch.

The Sterlings' Octobass for the 21st Century
The Sterlings' Octobass for the 21st Century
21/05/2013A couple of days before the UK debut of artist Linder Sterling’s The Ultimate Form at The Hepworth Wakefield, I sat down for a chat with Linder and her Manchester-bred son Maxwell Sterling (b. 1990), who had just flown in from his new residence, Los Angeles. Maxwell, who’s now scoring for film in Hollywood, returned briefly to the UK to perform his mother’s Stringed Figure: Octobass for the 21st Century for the second time, after playing at last year’s Latitude Festival - where the Octobass picked up the Latitude Contemporary Art Award 2012.

Jung Kim Interview
Over the last two decades, few artists have amassed such a quietly considered or influential cult following as Daniel Johnston. Counting Tom Waits, Beck, The Flaming Lips and Kurt Cobain among his many passionate fans, Daniel's music offers listeners a window into his eccentric demeanor and provides a channel for his own thoughts and philosophies.

Oko Ebombo Interview
A couple of weeks ago a mutual friend introduced me to Oko Ebombo, by way of the French musician's exceedingly soulful track, 'Naked Life'. The result of several years of recording, arranging and re-recording, 'Naked Life' is performed by Oko's latest musical venture, 19, a band whose name references the Parisian district he holds dear through family ties.

Developed and recorded between 2009 and 2012 in four different cities, "Naked Life" possesses soulful qualities of Ebombo's urban experience and the unmistakable influence of Parisian jazz. Directed by the artist himself and beautifully shot by Simon Eléphant, Ebombo appears in the video wearing a suit cut by Simon Cato of London-based label, O.BALLOU.

Maison Nue Interview
It's hard to pigeon-hole Maison Nue - something its founders would probably be quite happy about. The multiplatform makeup of Maison Nue encompasses graphic design, music, fashion and art and has hit the ground running this year with a number of projects and products on the go. We caught up with the collective recently to see what they're all about.

King Adz: THINGS DONE CHANGED
King Adz: THINGS DONE CHANGED
26/02/2013There has never been so much noise about the death of advertising. Every other lunch I’ve had recently is kicked off with a general discussing about how the existing model of advertising is well and truly broken. Kaput. I have just spent the last few years travelling the world writing a book about youth advertising – the most progressive and adventurous area of the industry – and getting down with some of the most interesting people out there.
