Raf Simons discusses his Dior Couture debut

21/07/2012

In a rare interview, Raf Simons discusses the direction and thought process behind his first collection at the House of Dior. It's an open and thoughtful discussion which allows us an insight into the future of the legendary fashion house under the guise of the belgian designer. More importantly perhaps, is its a rare insight into the way one of the most influential designers of our era thinks.

Ami Sioux Interview

Beautiful words, beautiful images

I had always wondered why I was so drawn to Ami Sioux's work and after speaking with her I realized it is the joy and true passion she has for her work that truly demands your attention. Originally from California and currently based in Paris, Ami's incredible portraits and fashion work can be seen gracing the pages of Self Service, i-D magazine, Vogue Paris and the like. I was lucky enough to catch up with Ami for a chat to talk life, music, the photographic dance and her first two books Paris 48°49N and Reykjavik 64°08N.

The Ring House by TNA Architects

20/07/2012

The concept behind POST NEW was to profile product, art, architecture, people that is beyond new, that wasn't to mean things which have just been released, launched or opened, but things that at anytime time were game changing or pioneering in their field.

2007 saw Tokyo's Takei-Nabeshima-Architects (TNA) architects design The Ring House, a mini-tower for a planned community in Karuizawa. Wrapped in rings of glass and wood providing a 360-degree view of its surrounding forest land.

Yuliy Gershinsky Interview

Futuristic Sterility

Up and coming Sydney-based designer Yuliy Gershinsky could just be the next big thing in menswear. Having recently graduated from East Sydney’s Fashion Design Studio, Gershinsky debuted his Capsule 2013 Collection at the Innovators Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia to a transcendental reception from critics and in-the-know fans alike. The capsule sees a refined palette of black, white and grey utilized to offer a minimal, sportswear-inspired collection that juxtaposes fine tailoring and fit against more boxy, loose fitting silhouettes.

Behind the Scenes at the TWA Flight Center, JFK Airport

19/07/2012

Originally opened in 1962, the TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy Airport is a brilliant - and sadly, often overlooked - piece of architecture, designed by Eero Saarinen. One of his last works, completed posthumously, the TWA Flight Center was happily saved from the wrecking ball in 2003 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The lines, curves and flow of the design provide a completely unique experience for visitors, one which can have the effect of transporting one to a different time - a time when the aviation industry was proud, optimisitic and exclusive.

GENERATION GAP: IN DEFENSE OF DEITCH

18/07/2012

There has been a lot of gab around the Los Angeles art scene recently with respect to the resignation of four important artists from the board of trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Over the last week, John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Catherine Opie and Ed Ruscha have all left in protest of the dismissal/resignation of chief curator Paul Schimmel.
