Travess Smalley: Capture Physical Presence @ Higher Pictures
Travess Smalley: Capture Physical Presence @ Higher Pictures
24/04/2013From May 2 through June 1, 2013, New York's Higher Pictures will host Capture Physical Presence, the gallery encore of Travess Smalley's book of the same name. Cature Physcial Presence is made up of Smalley's experimental collages; studies of composition, texture, color and space which draw from various nodes in art history, in particular, 20th century modernism. Comparisons might be drawn between Smalley's work and that of Matisse's Jazz-era découpage, Picasso's later work, or Joan Miro's colorful, looping compositions.

Nicholas Gottlund: MAKE READY
Nicholas Gottlund: MAKE READY
23/04/2013Recently opened at KARMA's Great Jones Street location, MAKE READY is an exhibition of archival printed work by artist and publisher Nicholas Gottlund. The show features a selection of Gottlund's work, alongside the matching work or "companion piece" that he produces as a back-up each time in case of any unforseen issues. An A and a B, per se. Gottlund calls them "Overs".
As the artist himself says, "it is how these separate yet linked objects relate to one another when viewed in the same space that demonstrates their making most clearly."
