Alex Prager "Compulsion"

01/05/2012

Renowned contemporary artist Alex Prager presents her latest offering Compulsion at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York. The exhibition includes a series of breathtaking color photographs from the series, along with a new short film entitled La Petite Mort, accompanied by supporting film stills. Compulsion continues Prager's celebrated cinematic and evocative photographic style, with this series commenting on the "complexity of observation within a society inundated by compulsive spectators." Whether through scenes where the protagonist is anonymous, or through close ups of the eye making it unclear as to whether it belongs to the subject or the viewer.

Prager's short film La Petite Mort, of which you can view the trailer below - stars French actress, Judith Godrèche. Godrèche takes on the role of a woman experiencing the boundaries of her body and the world as she traverses the mysteries of death. La Petite Mort features music by composer Ali Helnwein and guided by the impeccable eye of Director of Photography, Matthew Libatique of Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream fame.

Compulsion runs through to May 19th.
