Polish Cold War Neon

23/11/2011

Photographer Ilona Karwinska has released her new book Polish Cold War Neon, which presents a compilation of photographs taken by the photographer over more then 5 years around Poland. The book looks at the Neon Signs which were installed in the 60's and 70's as part of international attempts to "reconcile socialism and consumerism", the signs at the time were considered "progressive advertising". Ilona captures what is left of the project in different Polish cities along side information and interviews with employees of some of Poland's biggest neon manufacturers at the time.
